THE WORKFLOW

A newborn workflow mapped out from start to finish. A framework you can use or adapt and make your own.

posing

We'll work through how I pose a newborn and more importantly how to seamlessly move them between poses.

DREAMY LIGHT

I'll show you how I look at a space and find the light and where to position baby and the family.

You know how to use a camera, so why can a newborn session still feel like alot?

Well because there's a LOT happening at once.

Baby needs settling.

Mum needs direction.

Dad's wondering where to put his hands.

A toddler has decided they're absolutely not participating.

You're watching the light.

You're thinking about your settings.

You're trying to remember whether you've photographed all the shots you need.

And somewhere in the back of your mind you're thinking...

What am I doing next?

That's where a solid workflow changes everything.

what my clients say about their newborn experiences

"From the moment we arrived, she made everything feel calm, welcoming, and completely stress-free."

Jessica L, Newborn Experience

"Her gentle presence and obvious experience meant everything flowed effortlessly, even with a cranky bubba."

Bron C, Newborn Experience

"The whole experience was relaxed and enjoyable, and the final photos completely exceeded our expectations."

Melissa J, Newborn Experience

this isn't about learning more poses

I'll take you through how I approach a newborn session from beginning to end so that you can see how the pieces fit together.

How to settle a family.

How to read the room.

How I read baby's cues.

How I move from one pose to another.

How to create variety without moving the baby 385 times.

And how I keep the whole session moving without it feeling rushed.

Because when you know where you're going next, you don't have to spend the entire session making decsions.

You can ACTUALLY enjoy it, be present and photograph.

What we'll cover during the newborn flow

WORKFLOW: We'll map out a newborn session together from start to finish. Not a formula that falls apart the second baby is unsettled. It's a frame work that you can use, adapt and make your own. You'll learn how I structure a session so I always have a sense of what's been photographed, what's still needed and what to photograph next.

READING THE ROOM: Newborn sessions aren't just about the baby. I'll show you how I read what's happening around me during a session and adjust the workflow accordingly. Babys cues, parents energy, siblings, when to keep going, when to stop, when to change direction and when to just let the moment happen.

POSING: We'll work through how I pose a newborn and more importantly how I move between poses. Rather than learning a long list of disconnected poses, you'll see how I create a sequence where one pose leads into the next. This means less stopping, less resetting and less disturbing a settled baby just to get a different image.

THE SHOT LIST: We'll talk about the types of images I get from a newborn session and how I build a gallery with variety. Baby on their own, baby with parents and then each parent, siblings, connection, details different angles and the little in-between moments that you can't prepare for.

DREAMY LIGHT: I'll show you how to look at a space and find the best light to work with. Where I position baby and the family, where to stand and what I'm looking for when taking the shot. You'll also have a chance during each pose to take your own photos with me right beside you.

THE SEAMLESS SESSION: This is where we bring it all together. You'll see how I move through an entire newborn session without constantly stopping to figure out what comes next. The aim is to have a workflow and that you understand why it works and how to build one that works for you.

YOU WON't JUST SIT AND WATCH

There are two options for the hands-on workshop. I'll demonstrate how I approach the session, talk you through what I'm doing and then throughout the workshop you'll have the opportunity to photograph, ask questions and get guidance from me. We'll talk about the decisions I'm making, while I'm making them so that you can see it in real time, live during a real newborn session.

What you will leave with

Not just a notebook full of information and 350 things you're trying to remember for your next session.

I want you to leave with a clear picture of how you want your newborn sessions to run.

A workflow you can take into your next session.

A better understanding of what to photograph.

More confidence in your posing.

And hopefully a little less mental noise while you're in a session

BECAUSE you'll know what's coming next, you don't need to spend your session wondering

AND you can start to really enjoy newborn sessions without feeling frazzled!

Do I need to know how to use my camera?

Yes. This isn't a beginner camera workshop. You should already be comfortable using your DSLR or mirrorless camera. I'll happily help with settings and answer questions as we go, but the focus is newborn photography, posing, light and workflow.

Do I need to have photographed newborns before?

Not necessarily however it helps to have an understanding or experience. You could already be an established photographer looking to explore further education or maybe you are in the early stages of business looking to gain more confidence.

What should I bring to the studio?

Your camera and lenses. In your welcome pack you'll be told everything else, but the main item is your camera and lenses.

Will I get to photograph?

Yes, during the Studio or Bespoke Flow the mentoring is hands-on. You'll have the opportunity to photograph and ask questions while I'm there to guide you.

Will you teach newborn safety?

Absolutely, I will go over this during the session. Baby's safety and comfort comes first. I'll talk through how I approach handling, wrapping and posing a newborn safely throughout the session.

Is this a camera settings workshop?

No. You need to already know how to operate your camera. I'll explain my approach to settings and how I work with natural light, but the focus is on how to run and photograph a newborn session, rather than learning your camera.

Will I receive a posing guide or workflow?

I'll provide you a simple roadmap of everything you will learn and you'll be able to take down as many notes as you'd like during the session.

How many people are in the workshop?

Each workshop is intentionally build to be 1:1. Giving you plenty of time to learn, photograph and ask questions.

You've already got the tools

Now let's make them work together.

Let's take the mental load, second guessing and constant decision-making out of your newborn sessions.
Let's build a workflow that feels natural, makes sense and gives you confidence in what you're doing from the moment your clients walk through the door.
